The National Bank of Oman (NBO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ooredoo Fintech to build a strategic partnership focused on digital financial services and payment solutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The MoU was signed at the bank's headquarters in Al Athaiba on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. This collaboration marks the beginning of joint efforts to build an integrated digital wallet ecosystem, in line with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to support the Sultanate's digital transformation and promote innovation in a diversified and technologically advanced financial sector.
The memorandum of understanding establishes a framework for cooperation to explore joint business opportunities in several areas, including the development of the digital wallet system, payment and financial settlement services, and support for the infrastructure of the banking and financial sector, as well as launching joint initiatives in digital financial services and other financial technology initiatives as agreed upon.
Speaking about this collaboration, Mohammed bin Yahya Al Jabri, Assistant General Manager and Head of Transaction Banking at the National Bank of Oman, said : “This memorandum of understanding embodies our continued commitment to driving innovation in the financial services sector in Oman. In cooperation with Ooredoo Fintech , we seek to explore quality solutions that contribute to the growth of digital payments and enhance the infrastructure needed to provide more efficient financial services . ”
Noor Al Lawati, Chief Operating Officer for Oman at Ooredoo Fintech, said: “Our collaboration with the National Bank of Oman reflects our shared commitment to enhancing the digital financial services ecosystem in Oman. It is worth noting that the Memorandum of Understanding between the National Bank of Oman and Ooredoo Fintech establishes a general framework for cooperation between the two parties as strategic partners, exploring opportunities of mutual value. The specific terms and initiatives will be defined in detail through separate agreements. Through this agreement, both parties aim to stimulate the growth of the fintech and digital payments sector in the Sultanate and enhance the financial services ecosystem to better serve the needs of businesses and fintech companies.
