Zawya - Press Releases: Bahraini pearls record a historic 40% jump... and the "Danat" Institute enhances its appeal to investors

The natural pearl sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain has witnessed an exceptional boom over the past 12 months, with prices recording a record increase of at least 40%. This strong rise is driven by fundamental changes in global consumer behavior, who are now seeking intrinsic value and rarity in the face of the proliferation of lab-grown pearls, thus reviving the luster of Bahraini pearls as one of the most prominent investment and aesthetic assets in the region .

Commenting on this strong performance, Mr. Yasser Al Sharifi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT), affirmed that this increase reaffirms the importance of the national strategy to revive the pearl sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al-Sharifi stated, "The steady growth in the prices of natural Bahraini pearls by more than 40% is not just a passing boom, but rather a reflection of the return of global confidence in assets that are characterized by historical rarity and superior quality." He added, "We at (Danat) are working according to an ambitious vision to enhance Bahrain's position as a leading global center for pearl trading and testing, and what we are witnessing today in terms of international demand confirms that Bahraini pearls remain the gold standard in global markets, and their ability to achieve rewarding investment returns that surpass many traditional assets."

For her part, Ms. Noura Jamsheer, CEO of the Danat Institute, explained that the market is witnessing a structural shift in buyers' preferences, especially with the increasing awareness of the fundamental differences between what is natural and what is manufactured .

Jamsheer said: “Today we are witnessing a clear trend among consumers and investors to move away from diamonds, which have lost their investment appeal due to the entry of lab-grown diamonds into the market, which has led to the absence of the scarcity factor. In contrast, natural pearls stand out as a rare asset that cannot be replicated, and this is where the importance of (Danat) certificates comes in, which we consider the cornerstone for building bridges of trust; they give the buyer complete certainty of the intrinsic value of what he acquires, which has motivated designers and retailers to strongly return to using natural pearls in their new collections .”

This revival has had a direct impact on local trade in Bahrain, with jewelers and manufacturers redirecting their production lines to incorporate natural pearls in response to customer demand for unique pieces that retain their value over time. Danat plays a pivotal role in this revival through its state-of-the-art laboratories, which utilize the latest global technologies to guarantee the authenticity of pearls, thus facilitating international trade and attracting foreign investment to this long-established sector .

It is expected that Bahraini natural pearls will maintain their momentum as the gap between supply and demand widens; natural pearls, which are extracted through traditional and arduous diving operations, face limited supplies, while global demand for them as a symbol of sustainable luxury is rising .

With the momentum continuing in the precious metals and luxury goods markets, Bahraini pearls are expected to continue their upward trajectory, supported by the Kingdom’s efforts to protect the marine environment and regulate the diving sector, ensuring the sustainability of this unique national resource that combines ancient heritage with growing economic value .
