A high-level delegation from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University made a strategic visit to Arizona State University in the United States of America, with the aim of exploring opportunities for academic and institutional cooperation, and learning about the most prominent global experiences in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital education and educational innovation.
The delegation was headed by His Excellency Dr. Mansour Al Awar, President of the University, and included a number of academic and administrative leaders. The visit included a series of institutional meetings and strategic meetings in Phoenix, Arizona.
The visit focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in developing new academic and professional initiatives at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), most notably the College of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and the Global Commodities Academy. These initiatives aim to support the design of advanced educational programs delivered through the university's smart learning model. They also seek to enhance the university's role as a leading regional hub for digital education and innovation, aligning with the UAE's vision of building a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation and advanced technology.
During the visit, the university delegation held a high-level meeting with Professor Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, and Dr. Chris Howard, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, where discussions addressed prospects for academic cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital education and lifelong learning, in addition to exchanging views on the future of higher education in light of the accelerating digital transformations.
The delegation also met with several of the university's leading institutional units, including EdPlus, which specializes in developing large-scale digital learning models; Knowledge Enterprise, which focuses on applied research and innovation; and Enterprise Technology, which leads the university's digital and technological infrastructure. These meetings provided insights into Arizona State University's experience in leveraging digital technologies and artificial intelligence to expand the reach of education while maintaining academic quality and institutional sustainability.
The meetings also addressed Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) , Stackable Credentials (SCR) program development mechanisms, and flexible career learning pathways, which are models that align with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University’s vision of providing a flexible learning experience that supports lifelong learning and enhances learners’ readiness for the changing demands of the labor market.
As part of their exploration of Arizona State University's integrated innovation ecosystem, the delegation visited the Thunderbird School of Global Management, a leading global institution in executive education and international leadership, as well as the SkySong Innovation Hub, which incubates startups and research and development centers. The delegation also learned about models of collaboration between universities and industry in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University delegation also presented the university's Stackable Credentials model, which allows learners to build flexible educational pathways combining professional certifications and academic degrees within an integrated educational framework that supports lifelong learning. This model garnered the interest and appreciation of Arizona State University officials, who commended the university's approach to linking academic education with professional skills and labor market demands.
