Zawya - Press Releases: Sohar International and Sohar Islamic launch a campaign for their credit card holders
Muscat: As part of its firm commitment to providing added value that goes beyond traditional banking transactions, Sohar International and its Islamic banking window, Sohar Islamic, announced the launch of a promotional campaign for credit cards, which will continue until April 30, 2026. The campaign aims to turn spending via credit cards into reward opportunities, as it gives credit card holders the chance to win gold bars through monthly draws for every eligible purchase of OMR 50 or more .
The campaign is designed with a specific rewards mechanism, with 24 winners selected from Sohar International and 6 winners from Sohar Islamic throughout the campaign period. The draw takes place monthly at Sohar International's headquarters, and winners are officially notified and invited to collect their prizes directly from the bank. To ensure broad participation, each credit card holder receives one entry into the draws .
Commenting on the promotional campaign, Abdulqadir Al-Somali, Head of Retail Banking and Premium Banking at Sohar International, stated: “Our retail banking strategy is based on delivering long-term value through balanced growth and sustainable returns. This initiative is not merely a promotional campaign, but a structured, interactive mechanism designed to align customer spending habits with the current economic and market realities . As the Sultanate of Oman continues its journey towards a more diversified and less cash-dependent economy, financial institutions have a pivotal role to play in establishing responsible and sophisticated payment systems. By linking everyday consumer transactions to rewards backed by high-value assets such as gold, we are instilling the principles of financial prudence within everyday banking . The timing of the initiative reflects a well-considered alignment with current economic variables, including the continued strength of the gold market and consumption patterns. Most importantly, it reinforces our role in deepening the adoption of non-cash payment methods, revitalizing credit card portfolios, and establishing a retail banking model that balances growth, governance, and alignment with national economic priorities.” At Sohar International, we continue to design solutions that go beyond the typical transactional nature of customers, to actively contribute to enhancing financial inclusion, establishing sustainable usage behaviors, and supporting long-term economic momentum in the Sultanate.”
The campaign's eligibility criteria were designed to ensure transparency, clarity, and operational consistency. Each individual credit card purchase of OMR 50 or more during the calendar month counts as one entry into the corresponding monthly draw. Transactions exceeding OMR 50—including those of OMR 100 or more—are treated as one entry per transaction. Multiple transactions totaling OMR 50 are not eligible. Cash withdrawals and corporate card transactions are excluded, reflecting the campaign's focus on individual consumer spending and promoting the use of cashless payment methods .
In parallel with this campaign, the bank is also running another campaign in partnership with Visa, linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, offering eligible credit cardholders the chance to win all-inclusive travel packages including match tickets, airfare, and hotel accommodations. These two initiatives reflect a comprehensive strategy to enhance engagement with the credit card ecosystem by combining immediate, tangible rewards with world-class experiences, thereby fostering customer loyalty and accelerating the adoption of cashless payment methods.
Through these initiatives, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic continue to bolster their balanced growth in the retail banking sector, while deepening engagement within their credit card platform. With structured incentive mechanisms, clear eligibility criteria, and a well-considered distribution model, the bank is reinforcing a balanced strategy that encourages responsible usage, expands customer participation, and supports sustainable growth across its conventional and Sharia-compliant platforms.
