The 737 Max aircraft forms the cornerstone of EgyptAir's modernization strategy.
Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, May 3, 2026: Boeing (NYSE: BA) and EgyptAir announced today that the national carrier of the Arab Republic of Egypt has taken delivery of its first 737 MAX (737-8) aircraft. This aircraft is part of a strategic lease agreement for 18 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital and marks the first 737 MAX in the national carrier's fleet.
On this occasion, Pilot Ahmed Adel, Chairman and Managing Director of EgyptAir Holding Company, affirmed that the relationship between EgyptAir and Boeing extends over many years and reflects a solid partnership built on mutual trust and continuous cooperation in supporting development and modernization plans. Adel added that the delivery of the first Boeing 737 Max aircraft represents a pivotal step in the company's strategy to modernize its fleet, noting that introducing this model into service enhances EgyptAir's ability to provide a more distinctive and comfortable travel experience for its customers, in addition to achieving higher operational efficiency. The Chairman of EgyptAir explained that the advanced technology and low environmental footprint of these aircraft contribute to supporting the company's vision for sustainable growth and confirms its commitment to maintaining a modern and advanced fleet connecting Egypt to various parts of the world.
The addition of 18 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, in addition to 30 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, to the company’s fleet achieves a great deal of operational harmony and efficiency, as the new aircraft provides fuel efficiency and reduces emissions by up to 20% compared to previous models.
The company will also operate the new aircraft on short and medium-haul flights, as part of its ongoing fleet development program, to a number of regional and international destinations, including Paris, Brussels, Istanbul and Vienna.
Barry Flannery, Chief Commercial Officer of SMBC Aviation Capital, said:
"We are proud to contribute to supporting the development journey of EgyptAir by delivering our first 737-8 aircraft, a step that embodies the carrier's firm commitment to modernizing its fleet. This achievement reflects the depth of our strategic partnership with Boeing, and confirms our dedication to providing EgyptAir with the latest aircraft that ensure the highest levels of operational efficiency and elevate the passenger experience to new heights."
Passengers on board EgyptAir’s 737 Max aircraft will enjoy a new level of luxury and comfort thanks to the Boeing Sky Interior design, which features advanced LED lighting systems, larger windows, and more space in the overhead storage compartments.
