PRESSR: tpay obtains license to provide direct mobile payment services for government services

Cairo, Egypt - In a move aimed at promoting financial inclusion and providing new payment services and methods to all segments of Egyptian society, tpay, a value-added services company, announced the signing of the first license in Egypt with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to provide direct mobile payment services for government payments.

This step represents a new success in the path of developing digital payments in Egypt, as it enables citizens to pay fees for basic government services such as electricity, utilities, traffic violations and civil registry services directly through mobile phone credit or through the monthly phone bill, thus expanding the scope of access to include new segments of citizens who own phones and do not use bank accounts or cards, and it also enhances the ease of access for all citizens to basic government services at any time and in simple and smooth steps without the need for complex procedures.

The addendum was signed between Professor Ahmed Nabil – General Manager of TPAY Egypt, and Engineer Mohamed Shamroukh – Head of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, in a key step to enable and activate government payments via mobile phone in Egypt.

Işık Umman, CEO of tpay Group, said:

“This development represents a turning point in enabling secure and seamless payment for government services via mobile phone numbers. Through this extension, we are laying the foundation for a national digital payment channel that expands access, enhances ease of use, and supports Egypt’s evolving digital economy. Our mission as a payment facilitator is to simplify transactions and bring essential services closer to every citizen.”

Financial inclusion data indicates that 76.3% of adults in Egypt have bank accounts, while mobile phone and mobile internet usage rates in Egypt are approaching full penetration, highlighting a broad opportunity to expand digital payments to larger segments of the population via mobile devices.

This license strengthens TPAY’s role as a payment enabler for mobile payments to government services in Egypt, providing a reliable, flexible and scalable pathway for collecting government fees, and paving the way for greater growth as more government services move to all digital channels.
