Al-Ahly's new coach: I'm used to working under pressure and I'm striving to achieve more accomplishments.
CAIRO, Oct 10 (Reuters Arabic Sports Service) - Danish coach Jas Sørup, the new coach of Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly, said on Friday that he is used to working under pressure and is looking to add more achievements to the 12-time African champions.
On the 8th of this month, Al-Ahly announced the signing of the Danish coach for two and a half years, succeeding the Spaniard Jose Ribeiro.
Al-Ahly's website quoted the coach as saying in a press conference today, "I have learned a lot about Al-Ahly, and I know that it is a team that always strives only to win, and I personally agree with this. I will do my best to develop the players, preserve the history we have achieved, and continue the journey to achieve more successes and accomplishments..."
The 55-year-old Danish coach's last coaching experience was with German club Augsburg, leading the team from October 2023 until May 23, 2025.
He added, "I will have five assistants within the coaching staff, and our goal is only one: to win and achieve championships, which is the true meaning of football."
"I used to work for big clubs in Europe and participated in the Champions League. I know that the mission with Al-Ahly is not easy, and I am used to working under pressure."
Al-Ahly is tied with Al-Masry and Zamalek at the top of the league with 18 points, but the defending champions have a postponed match.
On August 31, Al-Ahly dispensed with Ribeiro's services following a loss to rivals Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.
Al-Ahly signed Ribeiro, 49, at the end of last May on a two-year contract, prior to the start of the Club World Cup, which was held in the United States in mid-June. However, he did not leave any mark, as the team was eliminated in the first round after two draws and one loss.
