PRESSR: Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare appoints Russell Hales to lead Centers of Excellence, advancing specialty care in Saudi Arabia

Dhahran, Saudi Arabia – Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) announced the appointment of Dr. Russell Hales as president of its Centers of Excellence (COEs), to advance the development of specialized healthcare in Saudi Arabia. This is in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, part of the healthcare transformation program.

Dr. Hales is a highly skilled radiation oncologist and professor at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He brings extensive leadership experience and a deep understanding of Johns Hopkins Medicine's standards, expertise, and evidence-based protocols. Dr. Hales' appointment represents a significant milestone in fulfilling JHAH's mission to adopt globally recognized best practices, enhance the quality of care, and ensure patients benefit from the benefits of receiving medical care that is both best and affordable.

Commenting on this, Dr. Russell Hales said: “The Centers of Excellence represent more than just specialized clinics. They are a unified model that shortens the patient’s treatment journey and significantly improves outcomes. We are equipping teams and charting paths to deliver the right care at the right time, within reach, by adopting Johns Hopkins Medicine’s evidence-based protocols with local insights.”

He added: "Our program is also a platform for continuing education, ensuring that Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare teams are kept abreast of the latest global developments while sharing knowledge about Saudi Arabia."

The Centers of Excellence model embodies Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare's mission to provide advanced, coordinated care accessible to communities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Under the umbrella of each center, clinical expertise and innovation are brought together within an integrated system designed to ensure the highest levels of quality and facilitate the patient journey, ensuring that all stages of care are based on a precise framework.

The first of these centers will be the Oncology Center of Excellence, which aims to transform cancer care in the Kingdom. The center focuses on breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer, which are among the most prevalent cancers in the Kingdom. The center combines multidisciplinary expertise, innovation, and Johns Hopkins medical standards to deliver precise, comprehensive care imbued with compassion.

A dedicated team works in an integrated, multidisciplinary coordination framework to oversee the patient's journey—from screening through diagnosis, to treatment, recovery, and long-term health management. This approach not only improves outcomes, but also reinforces Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare's commitment to placing patients at the center of care.

With the completion of the Oncology Center of Excellence, Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare is expanding this model to include additional specialties.

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare is scheduled to participate in the Global Health 2025 in Riyadh later this month, from October 27-30. Attendees will have an exclusive opportunity and in-depth insight into the Oncology Center of Excellence, highlighting how this integrated model is leading the transformation of cancer care in the Kingdom, setting new standards for every patient, every family, and every community.
