To add details

- The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command announced on Friday that its forces conducted an overnight intercept in the Indian Ocean of the stateless, sanctioned vessel Davina .

Washington imposed a blockade on Iranian maritime trade, while Iran fired on ships to prevent them from crossing the Strait of Hormuz .

US forces have intercepted a number of commercial vessels and oil tankers in the Indian Ocean over the past few months.

"We will continue maritime law enforcement operations globally to disrupt illicit networks and intercept vessels providing material support to Iran, wherever they operate," the command wrote in a statement.

Ship tracking data showed that the United States imposed sanctions on the tanker Davina in October 2024 for its trade in Iranian oil. The Davina is a supertanker capable of carrying two million barrels of crude.

According to ship tracking data on the Marine Traffic platform, the tanker, also known as Lenore, was last seen on Friday off the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

Other shipping data indicated that the ship's draft suggested it was almost entirely loaded with an oil cargo.
