- The U.S. military said late Wednesday it had completed its latest wave of strikes on Iran, carried out at the direction of President Donald Trump, targeting Bandar Abbas, Iran's main port city on the Strait of Hormuz.

The following are details and excerpts:

  • "U.S. forces struck Iranian command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities," U.S. Central Command said in a statement on X platform .

  • The statement indicated that the US military bombed targets in multiple locations, including Bandar Abbas, which houses Iran's largest port and key naval and Revolutionary Guard facilities on the Strait of Hormuz.

  • The statement added, "Earlier this morning, US forces bombed coastal sites of defense systems and cruise missiles on Greater Tunb Island during a 90-minute wave."

  • Trump reiterated his threats this week to strike Iranian targets in the energy sector, and threatened to target bridges next week.

  • The 1949 Geneva Conventions on humanitarian rules during war prohibit attacks on sites considered essential to civilians.

  • Following threats from Trump to bomb such targets earlier this year, US international law experts said that launching such attacks could constitute war crimes.

  • Trump also came under fire in April when he threatened to wipe out the entire Iranian civilization, before reaching a ceasefire with Tehran.
