- U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News, excerpts of which were published on Thursday, that China has agreed to order 200 Boeing aircraft, its first purchase of U.S.-made commercial jets in nearly 10 years.

Many details of the deal were not yet available, but Boeing shares fell by more than four percent after the statements were broadcast, as this number was far less than what media reports had indicated, which stated that the aircraft manufacturer was close to finalizing a deal to sell 500 or more aircraft to China.

The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment on whether Trump was referring to the entire Boeing order or only to narrow-body and wide-body aircraft. Boeing has also not yet issued a comment.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent had previously stated that he expected an announcement of a large order from Boeing during Trump's visit to Beijing, during which he held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Fox News quoted Trump as saying, " One of the things he agreed to today (the Chinese president) is that he will order 200 planes... Boeing wanted 150 planes, and they got 200."
