LONDON, April 10 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Friday that he discussed military capabilities and logistics related to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz when he spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday.
Starmer added during his visit to the Middle East, "We are working on forming a coalition of countries... developing a political and diplomatic plan, and also studying military capabilities... and the logistical matters necessary for ships to pass through the strait."
He continued, "This was the focus of our discussion last night; it reflected what I discussed here, and also the emphasis on developing a practical plan for navigation through the strait." He did not elaborate further.
Starmer did not directly answer a question about whether he had discussed the threat of the United States withdrawing from NATO in the call with Trump, but he said that the alliance brings benefits to both the United States and Europe.
He added, "NATO is a defensive alliance that has made us far safer over the decades than we might be without it."
