- Iraq's state-owned oil marketing company SOMO is offering more than 6 million tonnes of high-sulfur fuel oil between January and June 2026 in three tenders of varying sizes, market sources and documents seen by Reuters said.

These tenders are expected to add additional volumes to the global supply of fuel oil, limiting price differentials in Asia, which has already been trading at discounts since early October.

In one tender, SOMO offered approximately 855,000 tons of fuel oil produced at the Karbala refinery for loading from the ports of Khor Al-Zubair and Umm Qasr between January and June.

Approximately 142,500 tons of fuel will be shipped per month in the tender, which will close on November 26, with bids remaining valid for up to 20 days, according to the tender notice.

In the other two tenders, SOMO offered shipments of high-sulfur fuel oil for loading in the first half of 2026, to be transported from the ports of Khor Al Zubair or Fujairah, according to sources.

The sources added that these quantities include 1.54 million tons of high sulfur and high sodium fuel oil from the Basra refinery, in addition to 3.76 million tons of high sulfur and low sodium fuel oil produced from other refineries.

The deadline for submitting bids in both tenders is November 16, and the bids will remain valid for up to 20 days.
