Introduction 1-Two sources: Dismissal of the CEO of Kuwait Airways

To add details and background

- The chief executive of state-owned Kuwait Airways, Ahmad Al-Kreibani, has been removed from his post and Abdulwahab Al-Shatti has been appointed as his successor , two sources familiar with the matter said.

The two sources, who requested anonymity and are from Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation, told Reuters that Al-Kreibani's dismissal after two years in the position came after the authority withdrew its approval for him to lead the company.

A letter from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation to the company's chairman, seen by Reuters, showed that the decision was made due to "repeated non-compliance with aviation safety rules and regulations... and failure to meet the deadline to correct deficiencies and errors."

Al-Kribani has not yet been able to comment.

But a third source said that Al-Shatti was appointed on Thursday and began his work on Sunday as the company's CEO.

Al-Kreibani assumed his position in 2023 following the resignation of former CEO Maan Razouki following disagreements with the chairman of the board and a lack of consensus on governance principles.

Kuwait Airways, which has been posting consecutive losses for years, hopes that a major aircraft purchase deal announced in 2022 with Airbus will improve its current route, help it achieve profits in 2025, and expand to new destinations.
