Introduction 1- Human Rights Commission: We will send a team of investigators to Lebanon next week

- The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said on Wednesday that the commission will send a team of investigators to Lebanon next week to assess possible violations of international law by all parties in the country's ongoing war.

Lebanon was drawn into the wider Middle East conflict on March 2 when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Iran in its war with the United States and Israel, which in turn launched a large-scale air and ground campaign against the country.

Turk said, "This is the first time we have sent this assessment mission, and the objective is really to look at and document the violations committed by all parties - violations of international law, violations of international human rights law - and ultimately report to you on our findings."

More than 3,600 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, and more than one million Lebanese were displaced. The United States announced a ceasefire on April 16, but fighting continued. Lebanon says Israel has launched nearly 3,500 attacks since the ceasefire was declared.

The United Nations says the crisis is leading to a rapid deterioration in food security, with nearly one in four people in Lebanon – some 1.24 million people – expected to face crisis and emergency levels of food insecurity until August.
