PRESSR: The second annual Dhofar Forum discusses “Economic Development Prospects in Dhofar Governorate”

The second edition of the annual Dhofar Forum, organized by Alam Al-Iqtisad Magazine under the title “Economic Development Prospects in Dhofar Governorate: Integration and Partnership Phase” was recently launched under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, at the Millennium Salalah Hotel, in the presence of a number of Their Excellencies, honorees, businessmen and a group of invitees.

The organization of the Dhofar Forum comes within the context of national efforts aimed at developing Dhofar Governorate and enhancing its competitive capabilities. It also comes in light of the ongoing efforts to develop the governorate as an investment destination in light of its attractive environment and climate to enhance its contribution in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 .

The forum discussed in its new session the importance of economic integration and partnership between different sectors in supporting the efforts made by various relevant parties to enhance the competitiveness of Dhofar Governorate and benefit from the comparative advantages enjoyed by the governorate, to support development and economic work in a way that achieves the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

The forum also reviewed the most prominent developments and strategies related to the development of the governorates, plans and programmes that can contribute to investing in the comparative advantages in Dhofar Governorate and harnessing them to serve sustainable economic development in the governorate, the importance of integration and partnership between various sectors in achieving economic development prospects, and the expected role of the private sector at this stage to support government work and implement ambitious national plans and programmes.

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, delivered the keynote speech of the forum, during which he reviewed the most prominent developments and efforts made to enhance and develop the governorate, in addition to the most prominent development projects and their executive plans.

The forum included several keynote speeches, working papers and visual presentations, and witnessed an extensive dialogue session entitled "The Importance of Partnership and Integration in Supporting Economic Development in Dhofar Governorate", which addressed the role of these sectors in enhancing the competitiveness of the governorate and the needs of the local business system to enhance its contribution to driving economic growth. It also addressed the importance of industrial cities, logistics services and renewable energy in achieving sustainable development, in addition to the role of the transition to an innovation-based economy to achieve comprehensive development. The need to build national capacities and provide them with the necessary skills to meet current and future needs for sustainable growth was emphasized, with the participation of experts and government officials from the public and private sectors .

The session was attended by a number of officials from the public and private sectors, including Eng. Saeed Al Mandhari, CEO of Ithkaa Group, Dr. Hilal Al Dhamri, CEO of Raysut Cement Company, Sheikh Khalil Al Harthy, CEO of Credit Oman, Hamed bin Ali Bait Saeed, Director of Investor Services Department at Raysut Industrial Area, Younis Al Harrasi, CEO of Tabyan Company and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Real Estate Association, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Abri, Director General of the Privatization and Partnership Unit at the Ministry of Finance, and Saud bin Ahmed Al Siyabi, CEO of Operations at Oman Investment and Finance Company (Khidmah). The session was moderated by Khalfan bin Salem Al Rahbi, Editor-in-Chief of Alam Al Eqtisad Magazine.

The forum also witnessed the presentation of visual presentations and working papers, where Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Abri, Director General of the Partnership and Privatization Unit at the Ministry of Finance, presented a working paper entitled "Economic Development Prospects in Dhofar Governorate: Integration and Partnership Phase". During the paper, he reviewed the importance of cooperation between the government, the private sector and civil society, stressing the vital role each of them plays in driving the wheel of development. He pointed out that strategic partnerships contribute to attracting investments, enhancing innovation, and providing job opportunities, which enhances the competitiveness of the governorate as a leading economic destination .

The list of speakers included Ghazi bin Saeed Al Hamar, Director of the Dhofar Branch of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Hamed bin Ali Bait Saeed, Director of Investor Services Department at Raysut Cement Zone; Dr. Hilal bin Abdullah Al Hinai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Industrialists Association; Saeed bin Salim bin Ahmed, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Green Gulf Recycling Center; Ahmed Al Farsi, Senior Media Specialist at Credit Oman; and Eng. Samou bint Amer Tabuk, Founder and CEO of Sumw Design Studio .

On the sidelines of the forum, some entities and institutions were honored. The forum attracted more than 150 representatives of government institutions and units, public companies, various business sectors, in addition to small and medium enterprises and other professional sectors .
