June 30 (Reuters) - U.S. federal judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers rejected a request from Meta Platforms to dismiss a lawsuit filed by prosecutors in dozens of states accusing the company of designing Facebook and Instagram in a way that makes children addicted to using them while deliberately hiding the harm from the public.
In a ruling issued late Monday, a federal judge in Oakland, California, rejected Meta's request to dismiss charges related to deception, unfair practices, and violation of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
The judge said there was no dispute that Mita had not complied with the notification and parental consent requirements set out in that law, and ruled in favor of the states on that matter.
Meta has not yet responded to a request for comment on Tuesday.
