India's Hindalco halts extruded aluminum production due to Iran war
NEW DELHI, March 15 (Reuters) - India's Hendalco Industries said in a notice seen by Reuters and two sources that it has halted extruded aluminum production due to a gas shortage following a disruption in supplies from the Middle East.
The notice showed that the company, owned by the Aditya Birla Group, declared force majeure for all its extruded aluminum product customers on March 11.
Extruded aluminum is used in construction, electric vehicles, electronics, and solar panels.
India is suffering its worst gas crisis in decades due to the US-Israeli war on Iran, with the government cutting supplies to industries to spare households any shortage of cooking gas.
The company said in the notice, "Hendalco has taken and continues to take all reasonable steps to mitigate the impact of the force majeure situation."
The two sources, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said that Hindalco's aluminum smelters continue to operate normally.
Hindalco has not yet responded to an email requesting comment outside of business hours.
