PRESSR: Ministry of Education launches “My School, My Identity” competition, the largest art competition for government schools in the country

United Arab Emirates: The Ministry of Education launched the “My School, My Identity” competition, the largest art competition at the level of government schools in the country, with the aim of highlighting the creativity of students and teachers in decorating their schools and transforming them into artistic paintings that express the values of Emirati craftsmanship, the heritage of the UAE and its ancient history.

Her Excellency Sarah bint Youssef Al Amiri, Minister of Education, explained that the competition aims to enable students and teachers to leave their creative fingerprints in the corridors of their schools and participate in designing them in a manner that is consistent with the culture of the UAE and its rich cultural heritage, noting that the Ministry seeks to provide a stimulating and attractive educational environment for students that supports them in their educational journey and encourages them to achieve their future aspirations.

Her Excellency stressed that the Ministry periodically works to launch various competitions, initiatives and programmes targeting all aspects of students’ educational journey, in a way that supports its efforts to improve the quality of the outcomes of the national educational system, by adopting innovative educational methodologies that meet the aspirations of students and teachers and allow them the opportunity to express, refine, develop and translate their talents into reality in innovative ways.

For his part, His Excellency Eng. Mohammed Al Qassim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, explained that the competition will contribute to improving the quality of life of students in government schools and will work to consolidate the values of teamwork and innovation among students and teachers through their work as a team to implement innovative designs for their schools, pointing out the Ministry’s keenness to embody the spirit of excellence, creativity and perseverance among students and teachers in their schools and to celebrate their valuable artistic works.

Criteria

The Ministry has set a set of criteria on which the winning schools in the competition will be selected, such as highlighting the submitted works for the national identity and the authentic values of Emirati craftsmanship, the educational and pedagogical messages presented by the works, the accuracy and quality of the designs, creativity and innovation in the ideas submitted, working in a team spirit between students and teachers, and efficiency in implementing the works. The Ministry has also set the technical terms and conditions, the security, health and safety conditions, the safety of school facilities, and the school facilities in which the artwork and designs can be implemented.

The Ministry has formed a jury that includes experts from several entities, in addition to a number of Emirati artists, along with specialists from the Ministry of Education. They will sort and judge the entries and consider their commitment to the competition’s terms and standards, in preparation for selecting the schools that will win the top ten places in the competition.

The Ministry has allocated a number of financial prizes to be awarded to the top ten places in the competition, where the prize for the school that wins first place will be AED 100,000, the school that wins second place will receive AED 70,000, and the school that wins third place will receive AED 50,000, while the schools that win fourth to tenth place will receive AED 25,000 each . The Ministry has also set January 20, 2025 as the first day to receive entries and March 28 as the last date to receive the works participating in the competition.
