UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said on Thursday that the world needs to focus on phasing out coal, according to comments reported by Reuters.

“I do not think we should talk about gradually abandoning (fossil fuels) due to the improvement of technologies,” according to the minister, who made his statements on the sidelines of the COP28 summit being held in Dubai.

The COP28 climate summit continues until December 12.

The minister added that the question posed to countries that are still using coal is when they will move to other energy sources such as nuclear energy.

The COP28 conference is facing a challenge regarding choosing the appropriate words for the summit statement that is being prepared these days, after Saudi Arabia, one of the largest oil producers in the world, made clear that it does not accept the term phasing out of fossil fuel , which means the gradual abandonment of fossil fuels .

The conversation is now being written about the use of the term phasing down of fossil fuel , which symbolizes a gradual reduction, not abandonment.
