Agency: The decision to withdraw from OPEC and the OPEC+ alliance will take effect from May 1, 2026.
DUBAI, April 28 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates announced on Tuesday its withdrawal from OPEC and the OPEC+ alliance, delivering a major blow to the two blocs and to Saudi Arabia, their de facto leader, at a time when Iran's war has caused a historic shock to the energy sector and disrupted the global economy.
The sudden withdrawal of the United Arab Emirates, a long-standing member of OPEC, would create chaos and weaken the organization, which has often sought to appear as a united front despite internal disagreements over a range of issues from geopolitics to production quotas.
