April 10 (Reuters) - YouTube raised subscription prices in the United States on Friday, with the new increases of up to $4 set to take effect in the next billing cycle.
Alphabet-owned video platform said its regular YouTube Premium plan for individuals will cost $15.99 a month, up from $13.99, while the family plan will increase by four dollars to $26.99 a month.
The YouTube Lite subscription will cost $8.99 per month. The standalone YouTube Music Premium subscription has increased by one dollar to $11.99 per month.
These price changes represent YouTube's first increase in the United States in three years, and come several years after the launch of YouTube Premium, which debuted in 2018 as a modified version of YouTube Red, which was first released in 2015.
These moves follow a wider wave of price increases across streaming platforms, with Spotify raising subscription prices in the United States earlier this year, and Netflix, Disney+ and others also raising fees as companies seek to offset rising content and operating costs.
A YouTube spokesperson said, "This change allows us to maintain the features our members value: ad-free viewing, background playback, and a huge library of over 300 million songs on YouTube Music."
YouTube announced last year that its YouTube Premium and Music services combined had surpassed 125 million subscribers worldwide, up from 100 million in 2024.
