Adobe Independent Director Acquires 96% More Stock

Adobe Inc. (NASDAQ:ADBE) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Independent Director, David Ricks, recently bought a whopping US$1.9m worth of stock, at a price of US$195. That purchase boosted their holding by 96%, which makes us wonder if the move was inspired by quietly confident deeply-felt optimism.
Adobe Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Chairman & CEO, Shantanu Narayen, for US$18m worth of shares, at about US$245 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$220. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Adobe insiders own 0.2% of the company, currently worth about US$159m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
