Anduril, Poland Team Up to Mass Produce Long-Range Barracuda Missiles

Anduril Industries has signed a cooperative agreement with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ) to set up production in Poland for the surface-launched Barracuda-500M cruise missile system.

At a signing event attended by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the companies explained that manufacturing would be localized in Bydgoszcz. The plan centers on PGZ subsidiary WZL-2 as the production site.

The Barracuda-500M is a long-range precision weapon engineered for large-scale manufacturing at a lower cost than many existing strike systems. Anduril and PGZ said the project is intended to support faster replenishment and higher volumes than what scarce, high-end munitions can typically provide.

PGZ and Anduril said they aim to build thousands of systems for the Polish Armed Forces, with localization increasing over time as more Polish and European parts are added, according to Anduril. The goal is for the Polish-produced version to become a majority European-made, SAFE-compliant product.

Bydgoszcz was highlighted as a strategic location because of its military training presence and defense-oriented industrial base. Anduril said the city’s civilian manufacturing and logistics workforce would support production inside WZL-2 facilities.

"The cooperation contract with Anduril Industries Inc. represents a breakthrough both for our national defense and for the Polish defense industry," said Adam Leszkiewicz, president of PGZ’s management board. He added that PGZ expects to be able to produce and deliver "several thousand low-cost yet technologically advanced autonomous long-range cruise missiles based on the Barracuda system" within a short period of time.

Brian Moran, Anduril’s vice president for Europe, said, "The future of deterrence belongs to nations that can produce advanced capabilities quickly, affordably, and in the quantities required to sustain and win a fight."

Moran added that the partnership is aimed at strengthening Europe’s industrial capacity for precision fires and accelerating changes in how defense manufacturing is scaled across the continent.

The U.S. Department of Defense reached a framework agreement in May to help expand SLB-500M production. The system is designed for land and maritime targets, carries a 100-pound payload, and has a range of more than 500 nautical miles.
