Anthropic Hits $965 Billion Valuation In Latest Funding Round, Surpassing OpenAI
Anthropic overtook OpenAI as the world's most valuable startup after raising $65 billion in Series H, valuing the company at $965 billion.
Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital led the funding round.
"This funding will help us serve the historic demand we are experiencing, stay at the research frontier, and bring Claude to more of the places where work happens,” said Krishna Rao, Chief Financial Officer of Anthropic.
Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN co-led the effort.
Significant investors in this round include AMP PBC, Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, D.E. Shaw Ventures, DST Global, Fidelity Management & Research Company, General Catalyst, Insight Partners, Jane Street, Lightspeed Venture Partners, MGX, NTTVC, NX1 Capital, Situational Awareness LP, T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc., and Temasek.
The fundraise also includes $15 billion of previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon.
Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix joined the round as strategic infrastructure partners to "help scale our compute reliably at the pace our customers need," Anthropic noted.
The announcement comes just as Anthropic rolled out Claude Opus 4.8.
Anthropic Racks Up Partnerships
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has quickly established itself as a key player in artificial intelligence, building tools that are reshaping how businesses approach areas like coding and cybersecurity.
Last month, Anthropic reportedly met with investors about new financing that could value the company at $900 billion, more than doubling its $380 billion valuation in February.
The company has recently expanded its compute capacity, signing agreements with Amazon for 5 gigawatts of new capacity and with Google and Broadcom for 5 gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity.
Anthropic also recently partnered with SpaceX for access to GPU capacity in its Colossus 1 and Colossus 2 plants.
The firm’s latest AI model, Claude Opus 4.8, aims to deliver improved performance and new controls for customers and developers, the company also announced this week.
Anthropic is in the midst of working on Project Glasswing, an AI-assisted security testing effort that more than 50 organizations are collaborating on. Anthropic released an update regarding the project last week.
