- Battery recycling firm Redwood Materials on Monday appointed former Tesla TSLA.O finance head Deepak Ahuja as its chief financial officer.

The appointment comes as Redwood seeks to bolster its financial leadership to support the expansion of critical minerals supplies amid surging energy demand driven by a rapid build-out of AI data centers.

  • Founded in 2017, Redwood is led by CEO JB Straubel, who is also a co-founder and director of Tesla.

  • Redwood recovers critical elements, including lithium, cobalt, nickel and copper, by recycling batteries, and deploys energy storage systems that provide grid services and power data centers.

  • Ahuja was Tesla's CFO during two tenures and stepped down from the role in 2019.

  • After Tesla, he was the CFO of Verily Life Sciences and then the chief business and financial officer at Zipline, a drone delivery and logistics company.
