BLS nominee says he does not believe US jobs numbers were faked
June 10 (Reuters) - Brett Matsumoto, an economist nominated by President Donald Trump to be the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner, said on Wednesday he did not believe that the agency's job market numbers were faked, but that large revisions to previously reported figures were the result of technical problems.
"I believe there are technical reasons that could explain perhaps these larger revisions, but no, no, I did not" believe that the data was fabricated, Matsumoto said during his confirmation hearing before a Senate committee.
Trump fired the previous BLS commissioner, Erika McEntarfer, last August following the release of a monthly employment report that included historically large revisions to previously reported figures on job creation.
