The Donald Trump administration is reportedly inviting several tech and business leaders to accompany the President on his trip to Beijing next week.

Trump Invites CEOs To Beijing

The planned invitees include Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA) CEO Kelly Ortberg, Nvidia Corp.‘s (NASDAQ:NVDA) Jensen Huang, as well as CEOs of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM), according to a report by Semafor on Thursday.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, as well as U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, have been suggesting names of leaders to invite to China, the report said, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. Other leaders could include executives from Visa Inc. (NYSE:V), Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) and Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C), the report said.

Boeing’s China Order

The meeting holds significance for Boeing as it was reportedly in talks with multiple Chinese airlines to secure an order of over 500 aircraft last year. Ortberg, during Boeing’s first-quarter earnings call late last month, shared that he was “confident” that the upcoming summit would include the aircraft manufacturer’s order.

“President Trump has been very focused on supporting us in international campaigns and he's been very successful in doing that," Ortberg said during the earnings call with analysts and Boeing’s investors.

The deal with China, if it goes through, could provide a major boost for the company and help offset rival Airbus SE‘s (OTC:EADSF) dominance in the Chinese market. Notably, Boeing has failed to secure any major orders from Chinese airlines in close to a decade.

It’s also worth noting that China was the first country to ground the 737 MAX jet following the 2019 crash when a 737 MAX 8 aircraft, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, crashed, resulting in the deaths of 157 people. The crash was preceded by another 737 MAX incident, when Lion Air Flight 610 crashed in Indonesia in late October 2018

AI At Forefront

Artificial intelligence is expected to be at the forefront of the upcoming meeting in China, with both parties expected to discuss the dangers of autonomous weapons systems, as well as the potential threat posed by attacks from malicious parties using advanced open-source technologies.

Chinese President Xi Jinping had earlier called upon tech and industry leaders within the country to step up efforts in research and innovation as the global tech race between the U.S. and China escalates.

Jensen Huang Urges International Collaboration

Huang had cautioned against isolating and “victimizing” China, pushing back against proposed restrictions on chip exports to the CCP-led country. He said that such a move could hurt U.S. interests in the future, as collaboration between the U.S. and Chinese researchers was key to developing innovations in the field of AI.
