Potential V.F. Corporation (NYSE:VFC) shareholders may wish to note that the President, Bracken Darrell, recently bought US$493k worth of stock, paying US$14.98 for each share. Although the purchase only increased their holding by 2.4%, it is still a solid purchase in our view.
V.F Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Chairman of Board Richard Carucci bought US$515k worth of shares at a price of US$17.17 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$14.99). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.
Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 62.89k shares worth US$1.0m. On the other hand they divested 6.68k shares, for US$142k. Overall, V.F insiders were net buyers during the last year. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that V.F insiders own 1.2% of the company, worth about US$74m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About V.F Insiders?
The recent insider purchases are heartening. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. When combined with notable insider ownership, these factors suggest V.F insiders are well aligned, and that they may think the share price is too low. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.F you should be aware of.
