NEW YORK, May 8 (Reuters Breakingviews) - The Amazon founder is raising $10 bln to help build models that understand the physics of production. Unlike chatbots, factory knowledge is closely guarded in machines, suppliers and matter. Turning code into broad industrial gains will try even the most patient of capital.

Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos is close to a $10 billion fundraising deal at a $38 billion valuation for his artificial intelligence lab, code-named Project Prometheus, the Financial Times reported on April 22, citing unnamed sources.
The venture, focused on building AI that can understand the physical world for engineering and manufacturing, is separate from a holding company also raising large sums of capital to buy stakes in businesses it anticipates will be changed by the technology Prometheus is building.
