- Brimstone announced on Wednesday that the company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Century Aluminum Company CENX.O to establish a domestic "mine to metal" supply chain for primary aluminum production inthe U.S.

  • Brimstone, a U.S.-based innovator in alumina, said in a release that under the agreement the company will supply producer Century with significant volumes of alumina from its forthcoming plant.

  • Brimstone expects the agreement to add momentum to its industrial-scale plant, which is anticipated to be completed by 2034 with an expected annual production capacity of about 350,000 metric tons of smelter-grade alumina.

  • The company is currently developing its commercial demonstration plant in Reno, Nevada, which is anticipated to be operational in 2028, it added.

  • Brimstone said its process avoids the need for bauxite since "no economically mineable deposits exist in the U.S." for primary aluminum production, instead opting for a common, calcium-bearing silicate feedstock, a rock widely available in the U.S.
