BUZZ-Edgewise reports mid-stage trial data for heart disease drug, shares fall
Edgewise Therapeutics, Inc. EWTX | 0.00 |
** Shares of Edgewise Therapeutics EWTX.O fall 10.5% to $31.50 premarket
** The drug developer says its experimental drug, EDG-7500, met the main goal in a mid-stage trial in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition in which the heart muscles abnormally thickens
** In the 12-week study of 53 patients with obstructive and non-obstructive HCM, the drug showed no meaningful reductions in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), a key measure of heart function, and no patients fell below 50%
** RBC Capital Markets says the efficacy data in nonobstructive HCM may have underwhelmed some investors, but added that EDG-7500 appears competitive compared with existing cardiac myosin inhibitors (CMI)
** Brokerage adds the stock's drop "seems overdone"
** Truist says investors may be concerned about enrollment timelines, the potential need for head-to-head trials and delays before Phase 3 data
** Co says late-stage trial is planned to begin in Q4 2026
