BUZZ-Penumbra rises after FDA clears stroke clot-removal device

** Shares of medical equipment maker Penumbra PEN.N rise 1.98% to $324.62 in extended trading
** Co says it received U.S. FDA clearance for Thunderbolt, a device used to remove clots in patients with acute ischemic stroke, which occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked
** Says the device is designed to help remove clots faster and more completely, which can help restore blood flow to the brain
** Says Thunderbolt brings its vacuum clot-removal technology to stroke care, making it the only such device available for stroke treatment in the U.S.
** Says the device will be sold with some of PEN's existing stroke-treatment catheters
** "Investors have been waiting for a long time for this approval. It is good to see this come through and allays concerns of any potential issues with the data," says brokerage Evercore ISI
