CBOT Trends-Corn up 1-3 cents, soybeans up 3-9, wheat mixed

- The following are U.S. expectations for the resumption of grain and soy complex trading at the Chicago Board of Trade at 8:30 a.m. CDT (1330 GMT) on Thursday.

WHEAT - Up 2 cents to down 5 cents per bushel

  • CBOT wheat mixed as attacks on grain ships and port infrastructure in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov by Russia and Ukraine underscored worries over global supplies. But gains were limited by profit-taking and technical selling as most contracts hit life-of-contract highs.

  • Shipowners have temporarily suspended vessel arrivals at Ukraine's Black Sea ports for agricultural exports after a recent surge in Russian attacks on ports and merchant shipping, the country's agriculture minister said.

  • Crop scouts on an annual three-day tour of North Dakota's hard red spring wheat crop projected an average yield in the northwest and north-central part of the state at 48.0 bushels per acre, up from 47.1 bushels in the same area last year and above the tour's five-year average of 43.8 bushels.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported net U.S. wheat export sales in the week ended July 16 at 290,016 metric tons, in line with trade estimates for 200,000 to 550,000 tons.

  • CBOT September soft red winter wheat WU26 was last up 1-1/2 cents at $7.07-1/4 per bushel. K.C. September hard red winter wheat KWU26 was down 1 cent at $7.62-1/2 per bushel, while Minneapolis September spring wheat MWEU26 was down 1-1/2 cents to $7.27-1/2 per bushel.

CORN - Up 1 to 3 cents per bushel

  • Corn higher for a fifth straight session on worries about dry weather in the U.S. Midwest and rising crude oil prices. Gains limited by profit-taking and technical selling following recent gains.

  • The USDA reported net U.S. corn export sales last week totaling 332,679 metric tons for shipment in the 2025/26 season, below trade estimates for 400,000 to 800,000 tons. Net new-crop sales of 701,505 tons were at the high end of a range of analyst estimates of 400,000 to 800,000 tons.

  • CBOT December corn CZ26 was last up 2-3/4 cents to $4.87-1/2 per bushel.

SOYBEANS - Up 3 to 9 cents per bushel

  • Soybean futures higher on dry Midwest weather and good export demand and rising crude oil prices. Gains limited by profit-taking and technical selling following recent gains.

  • The USDA reported net U.S. soybean export sales totaling 56,351 metric tons last week for shipment in the 2025/26 season, in line with trade estimates for up to 200,000 tons. Net new-crop sales of 1,537,227 tons were in line with expectations of 1,000,000 to 1,800,000 tons.

  • In a daily sales announcement on Thursday, the USDA said U.S. exporters sold 126,000 tons of new-crop soybeans to undisclosed buyers.

  • CBOT November soybeans SX26 were last up 8-1/2 cents to $12.47-1/2 per bushel.
