We wouldn't blame LegalZoom.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:LZ) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Noel Watson, the CFO & COO recently netted about US$2.9m selling shares at an average price of US$5.90. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 53% of their entire holding.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At LegalZoom.com

In fact, the recent sale by Noel Watson was the biggest sale of LegalZoom.com shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$5.84. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At LegalZoom.com Tell Us?

An insider sold LegalZoom.com shares recently, but they didn't buy any. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. We'd practice some caution before buying! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.com and we suggest you have a look.
