T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Chief Broadband, André Almeida, recently bought a whopping US$1.0m worth of stock, at a price of US$196. That increased their holding by a full 99%, which arguably implies the sort of confidence required for a shy sweet-natured nerd to ask the most popular kid in the school to go out on a date.

T-Mobile US Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director, Raul Claure, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$120m worth of shares at a price of US$218 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$193. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 14.90k shares worth US$3.0m. But insiders sold 697.38k shares worth US$152m. All up, insiders sold more shares in T-Mobile US than they bought, over the last year. Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. T-Mobile US insiders own about US$744m worth of shares (which is 0.4% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About T-Mobile US Insiders?

The stark truth for T-Mobile US is that there has been more insider selling than insider buying in the last three months. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
