We'd be surprised if Cybin Inc. (NASDAQ:HELP) shareholders haven't noticed that the Chief Financial Officer, Greg Cavers, recently sold US$431k worth of stock at US$6.10 per share. That sale was 45% of their holding, so it does make us raise an eyebrow.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Cybin

Notably, that recent sale by Greg Cavers is the biggest insider sale of Cybin shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$7.25). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 45% of Greg Cavers's holding.

Does Cybin Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Cybin insiders own 12% of the company, worth about US$54m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Cybin Insiders?

Insiders haven't bought Cybin stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. Insider ownership isn't particularly high, so this analysis makes us cautious about the company. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
