Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In 3D Systems
3D Systems Corporation DDD | 0.00 |
We'd be surprised if 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) shareholders haven't noticed that the President, Jeffrey Graves, recently sold US$377k worth of stock at US$3.26 per share. However, the silver lining is that the sale only reduced their total holding by 8.1%, so we're hesitant to read anything much into it, on its own.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At 3D Systems
In fact, the recent sale by Jeffrey Graves was the biggest sale of 3D Systems shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$3.19. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that 3D Systems insiders own 3.7% of the company, worth about US$20m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
So What Do The 3D Systems Insider Transactions Indicate?
An insider sold 3D Systems shares recently, but they didn't buy any. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. We'd practice some caution before buying! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For example - 3D Systems has 4 warning signs we think you should be aware of.
