Doosan Robotics announced Monday that its board approved the acquisition of ONExia Inc., a robotics systems integrator and advanced automation specialist headquartered in Pennsylvania, the United States.
The South Korean company said it plans to secure an 89.59 percent stake in ONExia by purchasing existing shares and participating in a capital increase.
The investment totals 35.6 billion won ($25.6 million), based on an exchange rate of 1,390 won per dollar.
Doosan Robotics explained that the deal aims to strengthen its position as a provider of intelligent robotics solutions in the era of physical artificial intelligence (AI).
Founded in 1984, ONExia has delivered automation systems for sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and packaging, helping clients boost productivity and cut costs.
It has also developed proprietary collaborative robot software specialized in high-demand tasks in North America, including palletizing, box assembly, and packaging. The company has recorded an average annual growth rate of 30 percent.
“The acquisition marks a key step in transitioning beyond our traditional hardware-focused business to build global competitiveness in AI- and software-driven robotics markets,” the company said.
