Tesla Motors, Inc. TSLA | 360.59 | -5.42% |
Elon Musk said that Tesla Inc.'s (NASDAQ:TSLA) third-generation Optimus Humanoid robot will be the most advanced robot ever.
Most Advanced Robot
In an interview with entrepreneur Peter Diamandis, Musk shared that the Optimus Gen 3 robot was in the "final stages" of completion, adding that the robot was "gonna be by far the most advanced robot in the world."
He also said that the robot will begin production in Summer 2026, which will initially be slow and then reach volume production sometime in 2027. Musk, without giving further details, also shared that the Optimus 4 robot would be released after.
Optimus 3 Teased In China
Meanwhile, Tesla teased the Optimus 3 robot in Shanghai on Thursday, at the 2026 Appliance & Electronics World Expo, according to a report by CnEVPost. The report noted that the final version of the robot could be different than the one displayed at the expo. The company had earlier revealed the robot's hands via a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Elon Musk Bullish On Optimus
The CEO has been bullish on the Optimus robot, as well as humanoid robots in general, with Musk recently sharing that people were underestimating the advent of the sector and its impact on the economy. He had previously suggested that the Optimus could affect a country's GDP.
Humanoid AGI
Tesla would be able to develop AGI (artificial general intelligence), Musk had predicted, while also outlining that the EV giant would “probably” be the first to develop the said technology in a humanoid form.
Musk's pivot towards robots was further cemented by Tesla sunsetting the production of the premium Model S and Model X vehicles, which are produced at Tesla’s Fremont, California, facility. Following this move, the facility will instead focus on Optimus’ production, targeting 1 million units per year for the robot.
According to Benzinga Edge Rankings, Tesla scores well on the Momentum and Quality metrics. Tesla also offers a favorable price trend in the Long term.
Price Action: TSLA gained 2.15% to $407.82 at market close on Wednesday, but declined 0.20% to $407.00 during Pre-market trading on Thursday.
