Some of the losses seen by insiders who purchased US$4.31m worth of Empery Digital Inc. (NASDAQ:EMPD) shares over the past year were recovered after the stock increased by 15% over the past week. However, the purchase is proving to be a costly gamble, since losses made by insiders have totalled US$1.5m since the time of purchase.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Empery Digital

The insider Tice Brown made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$4.3m worth of shares at a price of US$4.67 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$2.89). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Tice Brown was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months. We note that Tice Brown was both the biggest buyer and the biggest seller.

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders.
