Entegris stock barely flinched after earnings, up just 0.8% to US$145.75, yet the report itself was anything but muted. The market treated it as just another decent quarter. The numbers pointed to something more important for a high multiple semiconductor supplier.

The real story was margin power. Revenue landed at US$883.2m with adjusted gross margin at 47.6%, the strongest level since early 2022, and adjusted EBITDA margin at 28.4%. For a stock trading on a rich trailing P/E of 72.8x, that level of profitability could be crucial in determining whether today’s calm reaction was too relaxed.

Entegris bull case: AI leverage and margin milestones

Bulls argue Entegris is a key beneficiary of AI driven complexity, with higher materials content per wafer supporting stronger margins and cash generation. Q2 gives that view some hard proof. Revenue grew 11% year on year while adjusted net income rose 42%, which implies solid operating leverage rather than just volume. Adjusted gross margin reached 47.6%, the best level since early 2022, and adjusted EBITDA margin sat at 28.4%. Management highlighted roughly 60% incremental gross profit flow through on recent revenue gains, even before a one off accounting benefit. Advanced Purity Solutions, tied closely to filtration and FOUPs for advanced nodes, delivered 17% sales growth and wider margins, which fits the AI and high bandwidth memory narrative. Free cash flow of US$120m, about 14% of sales, plus a lower net leverage target by year end, also supports the argument that the AI cycle is now feeding the balance sheet.

Entegris bear case: cyclic, execution and valuation worries

Bears worry that Entegris is over earning late in the cycle, with high AI expectations, heavy exposure to Asian fabs and execution risk from new facilities all wrapped into a rich stock price. Q2 does not eliminate those concerns but it pushes back on several of them. Revenue grew 11% year on year and both major segments contributed, which challenges the idea of a patchy, low quality rebound. Margin pressure from factory ramps did not show up this quarter. APS margins were about 30.3% and Material Solutions held around 20.9%, while the company still increased factory direct labor to prepare for future demand. Execution on deleveraging is also on track with US$200m of debt retired and guidance for net leverage below 3x. The more cautious part of the bear view now sits in timing and cyclicality rather than clear deterioration in current operations.

After a quarter where Entegris looked in control of margins, high debt and share price swings still raise questions about downside scenarios. Review the full risk analysis for Entegris which shows 3 important warning signs
