E.ON unit signs 200 MW grid connection for atNorth AI data centre in Sweden

- German energy firm E.ON's EONGn.DE Swedish electricity distribution subsidiary has signed a 200-megawatts (MW) power connection agreement with Icelandic data centre company atNorth for an AI facility in northern Sweden, it said on Thursday.

  • The 200 MW connection is one of E.ON's largest for a power-consuming customer, the company said.

  • The agreement sets a timetable for the power connection, a requirement for power-hungry AI and data centre projects.

  • "Access to power and a robust electricity infrastructure are crucial as AI and data centres grow rapidly globally," E.ON's Swedish grid unit CEO Martin Höhler said.

  • The agreement means E.ON will build a new transformer station and power line to connect the facility.

  • Work is scheduled for completion ahead of atNorth's planned start-up of the facility in autumn 2028.
