EU-US trade deal must stick to Turnberry terms, EU trade commissioner says
PARIS, June 4 (Reuters) - An EU-US trade deal must stick to the terms struck in Turnberry, Scotland, which includes a 15% all-inclusive tariff, EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic said on Thursday after an OECD ministerial meeting.
"This is absolutely crucial for us that at the end of the process we would end up well within the Turnberry parameters. And for us this is 15% all inclusive," Sefcovic told reporters.
Sefcovic's remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump's administration proposed tariffs of up to 12.5% on imports from 60 countries, including the EU, after determining they had failed to cut trade in goods made with forced labour. The EU has rejected that assertion.
Sefcovic said he believed the members of European Parliament would approve the deal.
