DA Davidson: Fifth Third Bancorp’s core earnings came in at $1.02 per share. They exclude merger-related charges of $229 million, or 19 cents per share. Core earnings were higher than the consensus of 98 cents per share, driven by stronger fee income and lower provision expense, Winter said.

Management expects the CMA acquisition to result in higher annual savings than the original target of $850 million by the fourth quarter, the analyst stated. "2026 is a transition year due to the remixing of balance sheets, systems integrations and investments in CMA’s franchise, however, we have greater confidence the merger should deliver strong revenue synergies in 2027, while realizing the full-cost savings benefit, should lead to nice tailwinds in 2027 and 2028," he further wrote.

RBC Capital Markets: Fifth Third Bancorp’s net interest income (FTE) grew 14% sequentially to $2.22 billion. Net interest margin expanded by 6 basis points (bps) to 3.36%, "the highest level in several years," Cassidy said. With strong credit quality, loan loss provision declined 43% sequentially to $129 million, he added.

The company launched the new Direct Express platform during the second quarter. It onboarded 66,000 new beneficiaries, “with all participating federal agencies now live,” the analyst wrote. The integration of Comerica Incorporated (NYSE:CMA) remains on track and revenue synergies are "beginning to emerge," he further stated.
