Germany stands by existing EU-US tariff deal, says ministry

- Germany is sticking to a deal from last year under which the EU would remove tariffs on U.S. goods and Washington would impose a maximum tariff on most EU goods of 15%, the economy ministry said on Wednesday when asked about the U.S.'s latest tariff plans.

"We welcome the political agreement reached in the trilogue on the EU's implementation of the agreement and support the swift entry into force of the relevant EU regulations as a contribution to stabilising transatlantic trade relations," said the ministry in an emailed statement, echoing comments made by a government spokesperson.

The U.S. has proposed imposing new tariffs on imports from the EU and other economies because they failed to curb trade in goods made with forced labour.
