- Google GOOGL.O and Australia's Telstra TLS.AX announced a network-sharing deal on Tuesday under which Google will lease capacity on Telstra's new fibre network while gaining access to Google-backed undersea cables linking Australia with the United States, Japan and Pacific islands.

Here are some details:

  • Google has selected Telstra and its new fibre-optic Aura Network to further advance its AI capabilities in Australia.

  • Google will secure inter-city dark fibre capacity on Telstra's Aura Network.

  • The deal will also provide Telstra with additional undersea cable capacity to support growing demand for cloud computing and AI applications.

  • The integration will also reduce the risk of outages and "ensure continuous, secure data flows", the parties said in a joint statement.
