GRAINS-Soybeans, corn ease on favourable Midwest weather

- Chicago soybeans and corn edged lower on Thursday as favourable U.S. weather boosted yield prospects for newly planted crops, while wheat fell as the winter harvest gathered pace.


FUNDAMENTALS

* The most-active soybean contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Sv1 slipped 0.02% to $11.53-3/4 a bushel, while corn Cv1 eased 0.17% to $4.30-3/4 a bushel.

* Wheat Wv1 fell 0.3% to $5.85-1/2. Wheat, corn and soybeans were all headed for a fifth straight session of losses.

* Showers and mild temperatures expected in the U.S. Midwest are easing dryness concerns for corn and soybean development, according to forecaster Commodity Weather Group.

* Lower crude oil prices also pressured soybean and corn futures, given their use in biofuel production, although grain markets have become less sensitive to swings in energy prices in recent weeks as seasonal supply factors regained focus.

* The U.S. Department of Agriculture said 5% of the winter wheat crop was harvested as of Sunday. But the crop's condition was seen as poor, with just 26% rated good to excellent.

* The agency will release its export sales data later in the day for the week ended May 28.

* Russia's IKAR consultancy said on Wednesday it sees the country's 2026 wheat crop at 91.5 million metric tons, up from 90 million tons expected previously.

* Separately, the USDA confirmed private sales of 136,000 tons of U.S. corn to South Korea for delivery in the 2026/27 marketing year that begins on September 1, 2026.

* Commodity funds were net sellers of CBOT corn, soy and wheat, traders said on Wednesday. CBOT/FUNDS
