We wouldn't blame Ducommun Incorporated (NYSE:DCO) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Jerry Redondo, the Senior Vice President of Electronics and Structural Systems recently netted about US$877k selling shares at an average price of US$154. However, that sale only accounted for 8.4% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

Ducommun Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, Richard Baldridge, for US$1.4m worth of shares, at about US$131 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$144, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 37% of Richard Baldridge's holding.

In the last year Ducommun insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership Of Ducommun

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Ducommun insiders own 4.1% of the company, worth about US$88m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The Ducommun Insider Transactions Indicate?

Insiders sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. Insider ownership isn't particularly high, so this analysis makes us cautious about the company. We're in no rush to buy! While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
