We wouldn't blame Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (NASDAQ:HBAN) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that James Rollins, the Non-Executive Vice Chairman of the Board recently netted about US$3.9m selling shares at an average price of US$17.35. That sale reduced their total holding by 14% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

Huntington Bancshares Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by James Rollins is the biggest insider sale of Huntington Bancshares shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$16.86. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 52.98k shares worth US$852k. But they sold 306.44k shares for US$5.2m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Huntington Bancshares Tell Us?

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.

Of course Huntington Bancshares may not be the best stock to buy. So you may wish to see this free collection of high quality companies.
